Isle of Wight Photography Competition
Terms and Conditions of Entry

  1. The Isle of Wight RNLI Lifeboat Board (“the Board”), a Branch of the RNLI, is the organiser of a photographic competition to mark the 2024 Bicentenary of the RNLI – the Charity that Saves Lives at Sea – and to highlight and raise awareness of both the beauty and the potential dangers of the coastline around the Isle of Wight.
  1. The theme of the competition is: Island Seas – Splendour and Safety. Submitted entries should reflect that theme and depict the coast and seas of the Isle of Wight.
  1. Entry is open to all residents of, and visitors to, the Isle of Wight who do not hold themselves out as professional photographers, and in three categories: (a) Under 12; (b) Aged 13-17 and (c) Aged 18 or over. Entrants should make clear in which age group they are submitting. If this is not clear, then entries will be assigned to the over-18 category
  1. The competition is intended to raise public awareness of the RNLI and so is not open to serving Lifeboat or Shore crew.
  1. Each entrant may submit up to three digital photographic images via the competition website at https://rnli200iowphotocomp.celebrationpage.org/ More than three entries from a single individual will be rejected as will images that do not reflect the theme or the geographic restriction above.
  1. Each entry must contain: (1) the name of the individual who took the submitted image and their age if under 18; and (2) an email address for communication (for entrants under 18 a named parent or carer must submit).
  1. Entries must not have been publicly exhibited or entered for another competition. Entries open on 1st January 2024 and close on 31st July 2024.
  1. Digital files must be in .jpg format and individual files must not exceed [10mb] in size. We are unable to return submitted digital files.
  1. Entries must be received by 31st July 2024. Late entries will not be considered. The Board cannot accept responsibility for images sent but not received for any reason.
  1. Judging will be carried out in Summer 2024 by a panel composed of Island-based professional photographers and the Chair of the Island Lifeboat Board. Award winners will be notified by 1st October 2024. The decision of the judges is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  1. Entrants must agree to abide by these Terms and must also ensure that valid consent is received from any recognisable persons depicted in their entry.
  1. Winner awards will be given for entries in each category: Best scenic image; Best action image. Other images may be awarded Highly Commended status at the judges’ discretion.
  1. All Winning and Commended entries will be professionally printed and displayed on public view at the Quay Arts galleries in Newport, Isle of Wight on dates to be announced.
  1. Winners will receive a large size A3 professionally printed example of their entry as displayed and will also receive a bespoke tour of an Island Lifeboat station. No cash awards will be given.
  1. Copyright: all entrants will retain copyright in their submitted images however it is a condition of entry that a non- exclusive licence shall be freely given to the RNLI to reproduce images in the pursuit of greater public awareness of safety at sea and on condition that the photographer’s name is credited.
  1. Privacy. All personal data submitted in the course of this competition will be held in accordance with the RNLI Privacy and Security policy (see https://rnli.org.uk). Only communication in connection with this competition will be sent. All personal data will be deleted at the end of the competition period.
