Education and Schools

The RNLI works tirelessly to help prevent emergencies on the water by spreading the word about safety in a professional, positive and age-appropriate way. For instance:

  • We can arrange an educational visit to an Isle of Wight RNLI Lifeboat Station with a qualified educator on hand to provide safety messaging and tasks to continue back in the classroom
  • Visits by schools or groups to the Inshore Lifeboat Centre in East Cowes can be arranged – watch the RNLI’s inshore boats being built!
  • We can arrange visits to schools on the Island or online learning sessions
  • There are lots of educational materials available from us and from the RNLI website including free lesson plans and topics

Please enquire about your specific needs in the first instance by e-mailing: education@isleofwightlifeboatboard.org.uk

Schools Mini-lifeboat Competition

To mark the Bicentenary of the RNLI, the Isle of Wight RNLI Lifeboat Board invited entries from Island Schools to build a Mini-Lifeboat with curriculum-appropriate tasks for Key Stage 1, 2 or 3 classes.

After careful consideration the Judges awarded a Certificate to Carisbrooke High to mark their success in building a self-righting model lifeboat.
