RNLI Bicentenary 1824 – 2024
The Isle of Wight Lifeboat Board co-ordinated a number of events to celebrated the RNLI’s second century. These included:
Thursday 21st March: Signing of the Bicentenary Scroll at RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Centre, East Cowes; at Cowes RNLI Lifeboat Station; and at Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat Station;
Friday 22nd March: Signing of the Bicentenary Scroll at Yarmouth RNLI Lifeboat Station
Saturday 11th May: RNLI presence at Riverfest, Newport Quay 10.00 am to 5.00 pm
Saturday 11th May: Yarmouth RNLI Lifeboat Station: Lifeboat Station Centenary and RNLI Bicentenary Gala Ball at Royal Solent Yacht Club, Yarmouth
Friday 24th May: Churches Together Service at RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Centre, East Cowes
Saturday 25th May: East Cowes Town Council celebrates 200 years of lifeboat building in East Cowes
Sunday 26th May: Public Open Day at RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Centre, East Cowes 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
Saturday 15th June: Round the Island Race, Cowes (RNLI was the chosen Charity)
Saturday 13th/ Sunday 14th July: RNLI presence at the Isle of Wight County Show, Northwood
Saturday 27th July: Friday 2nd August: Cowes Week (RNLI was a joint Charity)
Sunday 28th July: Regatta Service, Holy Trinity Church Cowes with RNLI theme
Thursday 1st August: “One Crew” event at all RNLI Lifeboat Stations
Saturday 5th October: Joey Attrill Walk from Bembridge to Brighstone.
There was also a Photographic Competition (see ‘Photography Competition‘ page for the results) and an Island Schools Competition to build a model lifeboat (see the ‘Education & Schools‘ page for the results).
